SEEPAGE MODELING IN EMBANKMENT DAMS WITH VARIOUS SUB SOIL CHARACTERISTICS

چکیده
The embankment dam has the advantage that it can be built in all sub-base conditions although poor topography, but weakness is seepage, so research on seepage needed. This study uses numerical modelling with GeoStudio program: SEEP/W and SLOPE/W. data used from Tugu Dam, Trenggalek, while subbase five soil types, namely clay, silty silt, sand, sand. simulation divided into two; first condition of characteristics remains water level increasing every 5 meters base elevation to below floodwater level;. In contrast, second constant, change. Each will checked for discharge stability. results show have a logarithmic correlation R 2 > 0.75. largest 1,90 x 10 -3 m 3 /s sand soil, smallest clay 1,47 -9 /s. saturated volumetric content also correlation, some cannot because they an value < From two simulations, occurs said safe average annual runoff which 1% 10-year re-flood calculated using Nakayasu Synthetic Unit Hydrograph (HSS) 5.99 /s, safety factor slope stability 1.2 then considered stable.

Liquefaction of Earth Embankment Dams
Paul C. Rizzo Associates, Inc. (RIZZO) has developed efficient computational tools to evaluate the liquefaction potential of earth embankment dams located within high risk seismic regions. Two relevant case histories are the Saluda Dam and the Santee Cooper East Dam Extension, both structures susceptible to liquefaction, and located in South Carolina. Saluda Dam presents liquefaction risks with...
متن کاملFuzzy algorithm for estimating average breach widths of embankment dams
Dam breach width significantly influences peak breach outflow, inundation levels, and flood arrival time, but uncertainties inherent in the prediction of its value for embankment dams make its accurate estimation a challenging task in dam risk assessments. The key focus of this paper is to provide a fuzzy logic (FL) model for estimating the average breach width of embankment dams as an alternat...
متن کاملThe Analysis of the Seepage Characteristics of Tailing Dams Based on FLAC
In this paper, the Guangxi’s red mud disposal field is taken as the study area. Appropriate calculating parameters and boundary conditions were selected based on the survey data to build a Mohr-Coul0mb and fluid model under the plane-strain condition. FLAC software was adopted to simulate the distribution of pore water pressure, filtrate seepage paths, and leakage of the dam body under conditio...
متن کاملVisualization Requirements of Engineers for Risk Assessment of Embankment Dams
Aging infrastructure in the US has gained quite a bit of attention in the past decade. Being one type of a critical infrastructure, embankment dams in the US require significant investment to upgrade the deteriorated parts. Due to limited budgets, understanding the behavior of structures over time through risk assessment is essential to prioritize dams. During the risk assessment for embankment...
متن کاملNumerical computation of seepage erosion below dams (piping)
In delta areas the land is protected from floods and high tides by dikes. In general these are constructed of impervious clays and built on a sandy aquifer as subsoil. Such structures are vulnerable to an erosion effect called piping. The actual word 'piping' refers to the development of shallow channels in the sand below the dike, which begins at the downstream side of the structure. Here ofte...
